Reading events topped the list as the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development (MKCD) announced its activities for the year on Wednesday.
The 2016 agenda involves 80 activities across the country, according to the ministry."Details of our programmes, such as the launch of Emirates Reading Club, will be announced at the end of the month," said Afra Al Sabri, Undersecretary of MCKD.
Most of the announced 80 activities involve reading as the UAE government declared 2016 as the Year of Reading.Besides reading events, the activities include poetry evenings, fine arts workshops, Arabic language seminars, theatre performances.
"This year's events focus on reading, innovation, talent, promoting the Arabic language and loyalty to the country, along with local and international festivals, intellectual and cultural forums, movies, theatre plays, concerts and heritage events," said Al Sabri.
The agenda was recently approved by Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development.
"The UAE leadership's attention to strengthen the role of reading in the UAE society is proof that the UAE lives a major cultural renaissance," added Al Sabri.
