A specialised rehabilitation hospital that can restore basic body movements and quality of life to those with physical impairments or disabilities has officially opened in Abu Dhabi.
Specialised Rehabilitation Hospital (SRH), which is part of Capital Health, a private healthcare provider, opened on Tuesday. The centre offers acute, post-acute and long-term medical rehabilitation and physical medicine.
The 160-bed facility is located on Airport Road, opposite the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and near the Abu Dhabi Department of Health (DoH).
The new hospital, which started operations in May, aims to help people who have been affected with lifelong complications due to injuries or by birth deformities. It has successfully treated 50 inpatients and more than 1,000 out-patients.
A recent study conducted by the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi said there are over 700,000 patients requiring outpatient rehabilitation services and over 4,000 inpatients requiring rehabilitation with a requirement of additional 350 beds. And by 2024, this number is expected to increase to 5,865 patients requiring 466 beds.
Dr Mishal Al Kasimi, CEO of Capital Health, said: "Being committed to the delivery of excellent services to our patients, while leveraging on international standard and technologies, is what has led us to the official opening of our state-of-the-art rehabilitation centre. With this centre, we hope to become the most trusted facility for rehabilitation in the UAE and internationally."
Dr Willian DeMayo, Consultant and director of physical medicines and medical rehabilitation at Specilised Rehabilitation Hospital said: "We have multidisciplinary teams that ensure scientifically backed-up hope for our patients. We offer acute rehabilitation for patients with complex strokes and have them get recovered quickly from acute care into rehabilitation."
The hospital has a paediatric gym with a robotic system and balance equipment that help train patients to walk and give the patients tasks and feedback to doctors.
