The Department of Public Works and Services in Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) has resumed maintenance work on the Kadrah-Shawkah road in the southern area of the emirate after almost a five-month delay.
Work to rebuild the 8km long and 8m wide arterial road had stalled in March due to some problems (related to road specifications, standards and schedule) with the contracting company that has now been replaced by another one, said Ahmad Al Hammadi, Director of the RAK Public Works and Services Department.
"The project is in line with the directives of His Highness Shaikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, to pay much attention to infrastructure works and boost traffic flow in the emirate."
All drivers have been urged to be cautious on the road and pay attention to the detours to avoid traffic accidents, he said. "Overtaking and parking on the road shoulder are not recommended unless in case of emergency."
Hammadi said the department has so far accomplished 15 public service projects in the first six months of the year. "These included maintenance, replacement, and development of important roads across the emirate." Enumerating some of the key projects, he said the completion of road works on the 21km long Saeedi - Twain road, locally known as the heavy trucks road, was a crucial project. The arterial road - which saw a number of deadly traffic accidents this year - connects the Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed road with the Twain roundabout."Meanwhile, the RAK Public Works and Services Department has also started maintenance and development work on a number of internal roads in the emirate.
