Following the Emirates flight EK521 incident at Dubai International Airport today, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) stepped in with timely added services to shuttle stranded and extra passengers to and from the airports.
RTA provided 14 double decker buses to shuttle passengers between Jebel Ali Airport and Dubai International Airport, as well as 7 luxury coaches to transport passengers between Al Ain Airport and Dubai International Airport, a top RTA official said.
Abdulla Yousef Al Ali, CEO of RTA's Public Transport Agency, told Khaleej Times on Wednesday that the authority had laid down a contingent plan to provide as many buses possible, supervise the traffic at the airports, as well as shuttling the passengers at the request of Dubai International Airport and Emirates.
"There are 66 buses being put on alert to move at any time, as well as an additional 1,136 taxis at the airport," Al Ali noted.
"Traffic movement was normal and what RTA had done was nothing but a precautionary measure in case of increased demand for buses and cabs", he added.
