An Indian man, who resides in Oman, was allegedly stopped with fake Chinese currency in his possession at the Hatta border point, the Court of First Instance was told.
According to public prosecution records, the 38-year-old salesman was arrested when the inspection officers found 16 fake bills in his car on May 1. He was charged with bringing fake currency into the country for circulation.
"It was shortly before 6pm on May 1. There was a bag in the back seat of the defendant's car. When we searched it we found 16 bills worth each 100 Chinese Yuan which were fake," a customs inspector told the prosecutor.
"The accused admitted he was aware the bills were counterfeit and he knew that when he brought the money from China." The bills were seized and deposited at the public prosecution and used as evidence in the case against the salesman.
