A salesman, 28, allegedly stole Dh343,000 from a safe in the shop where he worked after he made a spare key, when the owner left the keys with him.
The Court of First Instance heard how the Pakistani, A.S., booked a flight at the Dubai International Airport to his home country right after the theft. He took his passport which his boss kept in the safe and left the morning of the next day.
A.S. admitted to the charge in the investigation. It was not clear in the prosecution records when he was caught.
The complainant, a 58-year-old Pakistani, said that he kept the keys of his shop and that he only handed them to A.S. when he was away.
He recounted that he put Dh343,000 in a safe in his office located above the shop on August 8, last year, to buy some merchandise.
However, he had to seek the help of a technician to open the safe. "The technician found a piece of a key stuck in the lock. The amount was all gone and the staff's passports were there except the defendant's".
The shop's owner then suspected that A.S. took the amount especially that he did not report to work on that day.
He reported the incident at Naif police station and learnt that A.S. left the country in the morning of that day.
The complainant knew that A.S. left to Pakistan around 7:55 am.
Another Pakistani employee said that by checking the CCTV cameras of the nearby shops they saw A.S. entering their shop several times during which he changed his shirt.
The court adjourned the hearing to February 10.
