The Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) has decided to close the Western Model Private School located in Ghayathi - Western Region, due to "extreme safety hazard reasons."
In a statement, ADEC noted that the Private Schools and Quality Assurance (PSQA) sector had been in discussions with the school about necessary maintenance, and also asked the school to improve its overall performance.
A February 2015 technical report that was provided by ADEC indicated that the school's structure was in a "very poor" condition, with "very severe" structural deterioration. The school was also judged to be an "extreme" safety hazard.
A closure decree was issued on July 20th 2015 to shutter the school for the 2016-2017 academic year, and parents were informed of the decision.
To accommodate the school's 502 students, 216 Emirati and Arab students are to be allocated to six nearby government schools, while two remaining private schools will help host the remaining 282 Asian students.
ADEC is advising that all private schools are required to maintain safety and security measures, and that it will continue to take strict legal action against any school that does not adhere to the safety and security standards set out by ADEC.
