The lawyer of the family of an 8-year-old child, who was kidnapped, sexually abused and brutally murdered, called in the Court of First Instance on Monday for his murderer to be executed in a public place.
Advocate Obaid Al Mazmi, who is representing the victim's family in a civil lawsuit against the 48-year-old Jordanian accused, said that the execution of such merciless criminals before the public would serve as a deterrent for similar crimes in the future.
The court adjourned the hearing to August 8 when the defendant's lawyer is expected to present his closing defense arguments.
During the hearing, the public prosecution called the court to inflict the death penalty on the accused.
The prosecution revealed that the defendant's presence in the crime scene was caught on a camera fixed on a Dubai police patrol car; The footage show that his car was parked on the Academic City Road where he exposed of the victim's body.
The prosecution pointed out that the charges levelled against the accused are solid and were proved based on his confession, testimonies of witnesses and technical evidence.
"What mercy or leniency is he asking for given the horrendous way he committed his crime?
He is a monster and does not deserve to live in our safe society. He deprived the victim's family of their son. His crime made other families feel worried over their little ones' safety," the prosecution said.
A forensic expert, who physically examined the abuse victim, earlier told the court that he spotted scratches and bruises on his body, suggesting that the Jordanian boy resisted as much as he could to stop the defendant from assaulting and strangling him.
The doctor told the court that the accused was conscious at the time he was referred for blood sample tests and examination.
The charges levelled against him include premeditated murder, kidnap, physical assault, making criminal threats, consuming of alcohol without licence and drunk driving.
He only denied the kidnap charge.
Obaida was reported missing from outside his father's car workshop in Sharjah on May 20. His body was found after two days under a tree on the Academic City Road in Al Warqa.
