Over 500 light poles with LED lights were installed by the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) in Al Hamriya. The project also includes the installation of power transformers as part of the infrastructure development plan.
Dr Rashid Al Leem, director of Sewa, said Al Hamriya development project has achieved the directives of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, to provide services at the highest international specifications in all parts of Sharjah.
He added that the power improvement project in Al Hamriya aimed to ensure the stability of the electrical network and decreases the rate of power failures in the area.
Dr Al Leem added that the Sewa is currently implementing a number of infrastructure development projects in Sharjah as part of the strategic plan and a timetable to be applied in lighting operations in the emirate. "The plans include the expansion of the lighting project using smart LED technology, which has reduced up to 55 per cent of energy consumption. The Sewa is also working on the implementation of solar energy in lighting streets. The lighting projects have contributed to the reduction of traffic accidents and ensuring security and safety for motorists and pedestrians.
Hassan Al Ali, director of services and logistics department at Sewa explained that the Sewa has installed 340 lighting poles, extending 31km of cables in Al Hamriya East city. "It also installed 160 lighting poles with the extension of 15km cables in Al Hamriya West along with five new transformers. The project was completed in less than a month."
The details of the project were revealed during honoring ceremony organised by Al Hamriya Municipality to honour Sewa officials for their hard work in the city.
