The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has opened five new bus routes. The authority will also improve 13 others.
One of the new routes, Route E301, is an inter-city bus service that starts from the Stadium Metro Station to the new Al Ta'awon bus stop in Sharjah.
Adel Mohammed Shakri, Director of Transportation Systems at the Public Transport Agency, explained that the route was launched to ease congestion and encourage people to use public transport more often.
The feeder buses will be available every 20 minutes from both stations and there will be six stops between Stadium station and Al Ta'awon bus stop.
"This bus line is to encourage commuters who travel from Sharjah to Dubai and back on a daily basis," he said. Al Ittihad Road faces severe traffic blocks during peak hours and use of more buses on these roads will definitely ease congestion.
Other new routes are Route F02, which starts from Al Fahidi Metro Station, heading to Al Karama via Al Mankhool and Burjuman; F16 from Noor Bank Metro Station, heading towards the new Al Quoz Residential Area; F17 from Noor Bank Metro Station to Al Khail Gate residential area; and F42 from Ibn Battuta Metro Station to Discovery Gardens.
The move is intended to boost the public bus network in the emirate in line with RTA's endeavours to make public transport riders happier, said the RTA.
