Sharjah Charity International provides Dh66 million aid for the needy

Sharjah - The donations would continue to motivate the organisation to expand its base of beneficiaries in the UAE.

Since the beginning of the year, Sharjah Charity International (SCI) has provided more than Dh66 million in aid for the needy and refugees of various nationalities in the country.
Abdullah Sultan bin Khadim, chairman of the aid committee at SCI, said the donations would  continue to motivate the organisation to expand its base of beneficiaries in the UAE. "Charities have a major responsibility to provide assistance, support and aid to these refugees."
He said SCI has increased the level of service offered, especially to those who are receiving treatment assistance and are threatened with imprisonment for debts that they have failed to pay.
"Our role is not only to help but also to ensure the satisfaction and happiness of our clients," Khadim pointed out.

SCI launched a smart application that would allow those who need assistance to apply for aid from their places of residence, without having to wait on the premises of the charity organisation.
Khadim added that the first half of this year witnessed an increase in the amount of assistance provided to citizens as well as residents in the UAE. The total assistance included Dh8.1 million for the  monthly assistance provided to 1,000 families, widows, divorcees and orphans.
The amount also includes Dh18.9 million paid to 1,677 families registered in the files of SCI, and Dh2.6 million to cover the education of 382 students of poor families.  Some Dh6 million was given to 565 families for  their rent. SCI also supported the treatment of a number of cancer patients and those who couldn't afford surgeries. It also provided several people with wheelchairs, glasses and artificial legs. Around Dh2.1 million was paid to write off debts of 160 people and to prisoners who had completed their jail terms and needed tickets to fly home. A  Dh15-million Zakat has been distributed to 5,000 families and Dh3 million paid towards Ramadan food packages for 3,000 families.
