Under the instructions of His Highness, Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, election to the Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) will happen from January 30 to February 1 under the slogan "participate in decision making."
Dr Shaikh Sultan recently issued rule No 9 of 2015 for amending some articles in law No 3 of the year 1999 which stipulate the establishment of the consultative council of the emirate of Sharjah. The new amendments include election of half of the SCC members and appointing the other half.
Addressing a Press conference on Monday, Mansour bin Nassar, head of the supreme committee of SCC election, urged citizens of Sharjah to register for voting and for running as candidate in the election. According to the amiri decree No 59 for 2015, any citizen who has completed 21 years can register for the election.
Bin Nassar added that the SCC election is aimed at providing opportunities for citizens to participate in the decision-making process and development.
The SCC which has completed 15 years since its launch, has made great achievements in terms of participating in the social, economic and political development in the emirate.
Khalid Al Midfa, head of the media committee for SCC election said the slogan of the election was chosen from the speech of the Ruler to encourage citizens to vote.
Ahmed Al Jarwan, director of the organising committee of SCC election said registration for election will start from December 6 until December 17. Each citizen must register in his city or the region and vote for candidates of his city.
The election will start from January 30 for two days only and the initial results will be announced on February 1.
The final list of the candidates will be approved by the Rulers, who will appoint the other half of the committee on February 7.
