Sharjah Police have recorded more than 10,000 violations during the first two weeks since the new federal traffic law became effective. The most common violation was pedestrians crossing from undesignated areas on various busy roads in the emirate.
Major Mohammed Alai Al Naqbi Director of Traffic and Patrol Department of Sharjah Police said that statistics revealed that a total of 10,358 traffic violations have been recorded during the two weeks since new rules were implemented. "This does not include speed violations recorded by radars during the period from July 1 to July 13," he pointed out.
He explained that the Sharjah Traffic Department has recorded the violations in accordance with Ministerial Resolution No. 178 of 2017 on the rules and procedures of traffic control.
He added the patrols department has intensified awareness of the new amendments in federal traffic law through distribution of leaflets to the motorists and the public.
He pointed out that the Sharjah Police spreads awareness messages through various forms of media and through its official accounts on the social networking sites to achieve the highest level of traffic safety for all road-users.
Major Alai called on motorists to adhere to the new traffic regulations to avoid hefty fines and accidents. He stressed that the amendments to the new traffic law aimed at reducing fatal accidents and ensuring road safety.
