His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated the Khor Fakkan Literary Council on Monday .
He toured the corridors of the building and listened to an explanation of the most prominent features in the building, including facilities, departments and services.
The council will organise various events including workshops, cultural seminars and poetry evenings that will bring together writers and cultural leaders.
The 950sqm building is designed in local style, and is located on two floors. It has a theatre that can accommodate 112 spectators and a poet council accommodating 52 people.
Sheikh Sultan also opened the Poetry House and listened to the history of the building that was converted for the project. He also inaugurated the Popular Poetry Centre, inspecting the centre's facilities and departments, and the cultural activities that the centre will offer to enhance the cultural and literary aspect of Khor Fakkan.
The history of Poetry House and Popular Poetry Centre goes back to the 1930s, and the buildings were restored using materials that correspond to the heritage character and identity of Khor Fakkan according to the highest standards of the old building. — Wam
