The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority is all set to develop a number of roads in the eastern and central regions of the emirate against Dh150 million.
The key roads will be developed in 18 different areas, according to Eng Yusuf Saleh Al Suwaihi, Chairman of Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA), on Sunday morning.
"The new internal roads extending over 66km will be developed at the cities of Al Dhaid, Al Hamriya, Kalba, Khor Fakkan, and Diba Al Hisn."
The project, also meant to enhance public safety and security, is in line with the directions of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, he added.
"The new roads will boost the capacity of the roads of the emirate and better connect all regions and districts of the emirate, and connect them with the federal roads in the country."
Eng Shaikha Al Zuwain, manager of roads procurement department, said all the new roads will be paved as per the latest international standards.
"All parking spaces opposite residents' houses and nearby mosques will be paved with interlock, let alone other service supplies."
Elaborating, she said a number of one-way internal roads will be built at the Hamriya East and Hamriya West.
"The two-lane 9.8km long and 7.3m wide, with 2.5m hard shoulders, will cost Dh30 million."
Four districts of Al Dhaid city will also have a number of internal roads, she added.
"The two-lane 9.6km long and 7.3m wide, with 2.5m hard shoulders, will cost Dh30 million."
As for Kalba city, some internal roads will be built at the Qalah, Block-16, Block-19, and Al Saf areas, Al Zuwain added.
"The two-lane 22.2km long and 7.3m wide, with 2.5m hard shoulders, will cost Dh30 million."
The Khor Fakkan city will have a number of internal roads at the districts of Al Lualueya, Al Yarmook, and Al Qadisiya, she said.
"The two-lane 15.9km long and 7.3m wide, with 2.5m hard shoulders, will cost Dh30 million."
Some other roads will also be built at four districts of the Diba Al Hisn city, including Al Doob, Al Mahleb, Al Seeh, and Al Shamali.
"The two-lane 8.1km long and 7.3m wide, with 2.5m hard shoulders, will cost Dh30 million."
Al Zuwain said the roads would ease access to the public facilities there, including mosques, schools, parks, and alike.
