The municipality has intensified inspections targeting those who illegally slaughter animals in markets or food outlets that sell meat.
“The municipality will not tolerate the illegal butchers in the markets. They ignore the health of the animals and risk the lives of people,” Sultan Al Mualla, Director-General of the municipality, said at a press conference on Wednesday.
He urged the public to slaughter their animals only in the abattoirs to protect their health.
An inspection team of veterinarians has been formed to medically check the livestock and meat in the abattoirs that operate from 6am to 4pm during the holy month of Ramadan, Al Mualla said.
Inspections have been intensified at the meat markets in Al Dhaid and the Eastern Region. The inspectors who fan out to the entire emirate will ensure that all markets and restaurants are following the health procedures and regulations laid down by the civic body.
