Sharjah's first 'Solar Street Light' project, covering some 20km stretch of roads, has been successfully commissioned as part of Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority's green energy drive.
The project undertaken by Biz Tech International, a division of Paradigm Pioneers Group, has lightened up streets across Al Sajaa Industrial Area, Al Barashi, Al Zubair, Bateah, Maliha Road and Al Mahathab of Sharjah.
The commissioning of the pioneering green street project, featuring 600 poles installed with 1200 solar panels, follows the successful installation of solar panels at SEWA head office by Biz Tech International.
Tariq, who had initiated several energy-efficient projects as part of his group's mission to provide sustainable solutions, said the entire installation work was completed in six months.
Paradigm Pioneers Group, which built one of the first green buildings at Sharjah's Hamriyah Free Zone, is working on several such green initiatives including commercial and residential projects that will improve the quality of life in line with the group's vision of promoting sustainable and eco-friendly energy solutions, he said.
Tariq said panels made up of photovoltaic cells, which get charged during the day by absorbing sunlight, and illuminate the community by night, is economic, requiring occasional maintenance. Paradigm Pioneers Group plans to install solar energy solutions at various units of their company.
"Solar power is in abundance within the UAE. By incorporating the use of solar panels to tap a natural resource, Biz Tech International, is contributing to expand the horizon of sustainability within the region by creating a better now for a greater future," said Tariq.
The UAE has one of the largest carbon footprints in the world, and as per the 2015 UAE State of Energy Report, in 2010 the country recorded around 20 tonnes of carbon emissions per person, a 63 per cent increase since 2000. "There has been a slow but steady rise in environmental awareness, and with the Expo 2020's focus on sustainability as a key theme, the UAE is shifting gears by encouraging green initiative projects," said Tariq.
