Finally, after almost four months of partial closure on two phases, the King Faisal road has now been reopened with critical amendments in both directions on the Dubai-Sharjah road.
The arterial motorway was partially closed from September 17 in the direction from Sharjah to Dubai, in collaboration with the Sharjah Police, as part of the second phase of the set development works.
The two-phase scheme started on July 20 and was to be completed by the end of the year, but it was opened earlier in pursuance of the directives of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, according to a top official.
Eng Yusuf Saleh Al Suwaihi, Chairman of RTA Sharjah, on Thursday said the Authority was all set to finish the key project as early as possible: "The key project has been accomplished by staff engineers at the RTA Sharjah and without consulting any consultancy bureaus."
The maintenance works of the road included the construction of service roads, Eng Al Hajiri stated.
"Part of the asphalt layer was removed, renewed, painted, and marked again in line with the highest safety standards."
All the traffic signals on the road have been maintained while an aluminum barrier has been fixed along the road to curb run-over accidents, he said.
"The entries and exits on both directions have been developed."
However, few parts of the road, which have no impact on traffic flow, are to be maintained within a week as of Friday, November 13 to 23.
"These span the maintenance of the service road from the Central Market roundabout to King Faisal road in the direction of the Union road."
