His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, stressed on the vital role played by the supporting industries in the huge accomplishments made by Dubai's aviation sector during past years.
Those industries have formed a comprehensive array that has contributed effectively in all accomplishments made within Dubai's strategy to be a role model in developing economic sectors.
The statement came during his visit to the Emirates Flight Catering- one of the world's biggest flight catering facilities - where he was briefed on the ongoing processes in the company that serves over 120 airlines, including Emirates Airlines. He also toured the key operational areas and facilities that the company runs.
Sheikh Mohammed also made rounds at the Central Commissary Unit (CCU) and Skybake, inaugurated last year to meet the local and international demand within flight catering industry. CCU handles 15 tonnes of vegetables, 9 tonnes of fruit and 30 tonnes of meat on a daily basis, in addition to the recently introduced new products lines of ice cream and pasta. Skybake uses 3,300 tonnes of flour per year to produce 97 variations of product and distributes 450,000 items.
The tour continued through the main production areas, where Sheikh Mohammed saw the automated overhead cart transport system (monorail) which carries over 29,142 meal carts through 2.55km of monorail line. The system also transports the carts and containers to the dishwashing area where over 3 million cutlery and crockery are washed per day. He also toured the speciality production areas where over 520 talented chefs work day and night to prepare 1,548 different menus per year.
Emirates Flight Catering employs over 10,000 employees from 50 countries in a workplace of collaboration and customer orientation in order to meet the clients' needs, while maintaining the company's commitment towards quality and safety by adopting the highest vocational standards.
Sheikh Mohammed was accompanied by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority; Chairman and CEO of Emirates Group; and Khalifa Saeed Sulaiman, Director-General of Dubai's Protocol Department.
