Six men, accused of using Emirates resident IDs that were not their own, stood trial in the Court of First Instance on Wednesday.
According to prosecution records, the six Pakistanis aged between 22 and 33, showed up at a hotel in Dubai downtown around midnight on March 11. When asked for identification, they showed IDs which did not belong to them.
The incident was reported to Bur Dubai police after the hotel security guard noticed the IDs were not theirs. “I was the security guard on night duty at the entrance for the hotel staff. The six men approached me and asked to enter. They claimed they were to carry out some work in the lobby,” the 23-year-old Pakistani hotel security guard told the investigating prosecutor.
When he checked the photos on their IDs, he noticed the cards were not theirs. But the men still claimed otherwise. However, the Emirates IDs used by the defendants were found to be authentic.
Five of them are in the country on a visit visa, and all of them to the charge of using others’ official documents admitted during the public prosecution investigation.
One of the accused, a carpenter, admitted they went to the hotel after they heard of job opportunities there.
A verdict is expected on September 7.
