Over these 10 years, a development drive has taken over the emirate that made the world stand up and notice the small desert nation. From the Arab Reading Challenge launched this year - with more than a million students committing to read 50 million extracurricular books - to the Dh2-billion Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Fund to Finance Innovation, his initiatives take care of both the UAE and the world and will continue to do so.

1. Horse racing: This is one of the most well known hobbies of Shaikh Mohammed. He has loved horses ever since he was a child. He is the founder of the Godolphin Stables and the owner of Darley.

2. Love for cars: Shaikh Mohammed loves to drive around in his white Mercedes G63. With a number plate that reads "DUBAI 1", the SUV can be spotted from a distance.
