There’s a scientific explanation to why Rudolph’s nose is red because it is rich in supply with red blood cells, which help to protect it from freezing and to regulate brain temperature. Why our noses turned red on a weekday afternoon (Dubai: outside temperature 26°C) has no such explanation though, other than the fact that we were having a good time catching up on the movies and munching on some popcorn.
For, in Snow Cinema by VOX Cinemas, it can get quite cold. While it may have got cold outside, it does get colder in here. Let’s say minus three degrees. We’re at world’s first cinema in an indoor ski resort, Winter Wonderland, Ski Dubai, Mall of the Emirates, Dubai, and whilst it is not a hidden gem (we’re in a mall!), it’s one cinematic experience, awaiting to be discovered. And to uncover this one, we advise you to slip into Santa’s overalls.
We went prepped for our movie outing, simply because we were a tad more excited than regular moviegoers, partly for during the pandemic the only movies we consumed were on streaming platforms, and that doesn’t quite really count as cinema, right? I, for one, carried my woollen overcoat and a cap, as well. Though, if you decide to turn a mall outing into a movie night, then your ticket to the movies does come with the right kind of accessories like jacket, boots, gloves, socks, et al. And yes, partly because just like many of you this year, our travel plans to colder destinations too got halted. Come along, then.
Follow the reindeer footsteps, which would lead you to the 48-seater cinema inside Ski Dubai, as well as remind you to maintain social distancing. Watch your breath on this cold winter day. Side note, seating is on a first-come-first-served basis, and it would help to get into the gear if you arrive 40 minutes before the booking time. Choose your seats, unwrap the wireless headphones, wrap yourself up in the blanket, and sit back, for the snow, err, show to start.
As we settled in, a bottle of water, popcorn box, and hot chocolate cuppa arrived (included in ticket price). We were now feeling quite at home, all cosied up, for we did turn on the heater, in front of our seats. You are less likely to feel the need to snack on more (weather conditions), but if you do, you can scan the QR code (by your seat side) and order goodies from the à la carte menu. We didn’t. We could have done with a bite, with fleece gloves on, but it didn’t feel like an edible choice to make. For to quote the famous Game of Thrones (GOT) phrase, winter is here, literally; and we were just happy to watch a Christmas classic, absorb the encounter with the snow, and yes, soak in the festivities all around us.
