Festival of Opening of Heaven
Gaecheonjeol or 'Festival of the Opening of Heaven' is South Korea's National Foundation Day, which is celebrated every October 3.
This holiday celebrates the legendary formation of the first Korean state of Gojoseon in 2333 BC, traditionally regarded as the date for the founding of the Korean people. Gaecheonjeol is also recognised in North Korea, although not as a public holiday.
