Even as 55 people were killed in road accidents in Ras Al Khaimah last year, speeding is blamed for most of the accidents reported.
Entering the main road without checking if it was clear is another main reason. Major-General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the RAK Police, said traffic reports and enactment of road accidents show that there are certain 'hotspots' where many accidents were reported.
Though 55 people died in road accidents last year, it is 22 per cent lesser than the number of road fatalities in 2014, when 71 died.
The traffic report for 2015 showed that RAK saw more road accidents last year compared to 2014. "Up to 322 accidents occurred in 2015 against 258 in 2014 - 64 more."
Maj-Gen Alwan blamed speeding, inattentive driving, poor lane changing, and entering the road without advance checking for most of the 322 accidents that happened last year.
The northern emirate saw a 1.6 per cent rise in the number of the newly registered vehicles.
"Up to 23,808 vehicles were registered last year and 12,034 diving licenses were issued in 2015."
