Student of Delhi Private School, Sharjah Divya Shishodia was stuck in dire straits after her first CBSE Grade 12 Board exam. A hard-working commerce student with the subject combinations- Economics, Accounts, Business Studies, and Marketing, Divya was all set and prepared to write one of the biggest exams of her life.
She slipped on the stairs and in school after writing her first paper and in that process tore a big ligament of her right ankle and was left with no other choice except wear a cast throughout the examinations. "The day I injured my leg, I had an exam the very next day as well," she added.
"I was in a serious amount of pain and I had to take up to eight pain killers every day to get the pain to subside," she said. Her father Rajiv Shashodia said: "She's never been injured before this and it was very difficult for her to walk around."
However, despite all the hurdles those were thrown at her, Divya aced her examinations and came on top of her school in the Commerce division. "I'm overjoyed at the results. There were times I did break down and I think that all the hard work and trouble that I went through paid off," she said.
She added: "There were nights I would set separate alarms at 3 am and then at 5 am so that I could get up and have my medicines and that also took a physical toll on me." One of the biggest challenges that she went through was that she could not attend Accountancy tuitions. "Accounts was one of my weaker subjects and because of the crutches, my mobility was seriously bought down, because of which I could not go for Accountancy tuitions and I had to tackle the subject entirely on my own," she added. Despite her troubles, she still scored 95 per cent marks in Accountancy.
She plans to head over to S.P. Jain University in Singapore to pursue her Bachelors. "The biggest lesson was that . Hard work really pays off," said Divya.
