None of the typing centres on the office premises processed any visa-related applications on Monday and Tuesday as the online system was not responding.
“There has neither been a breakdown nor a slowdown, maintenance nor failure; we are only upgrading the systems to meet the pressing demand for the convenience of the public,” Major-General Mohammad Ahmed Al Marri, Director-General of the DNRD, told Khaleej Times on Tuesday. “Work is expected to get back to normal by 6pm when the upgrading process will be completed,” he added.
The DNRD offices work till 8pm.
Unlike Sunday when visa application procedures and residency-related affairs were processed smoothly, the department’s head office in Jafliya and all external centres across the emirate were on halt in the last two days.
Lt-Col Khalid Nasser Alrazooqi, Assistant Director-General for Electronic Services at the department, on Monday denied any snag or overload on the system, and told Khaleej Times that everything would be okay on Tuesday.
“Customers may then approach the Dubai immigration head office and other 21 external centres as usual. For enquiries and urgent transactions, AMER toll-free 8005111 may be reached all through the week, even on holidays,” he said.
Othman A. said he tried all typing centres at the head office to apply for a one-month visit visa for his parents for two days. “I was told that the immigration computer system is out of service.” Nihad Al Khazraji, an Egyptian, said he checked on the Amer toll-free number at 3pm on Monday about the documents required to apply for a residence visa for his wife but was advised to come on Tuesday. “They said I’d better come on Tuesday as the systems were still down, and the work would resume after 6pm.
