A 42-year-old Asian cab passenger succumbed to injuries he sustained when the local taxi he was travelling in rammed into the rear of a long heavy truck here in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.
The accident happened on one of the internal roads at the Al Ghail area late on Thursday, according to a senior police officer.
Col Ahmed Al Sam Al Naqbi, director of the traffic and patrols department, RAK police, said the two people hurt were in their thirties and of the same nationality of the killed passenger.
The central operations room of the RAK Police, having been alerted of the accident, dispatched a traffic patrol, ambulance, paramedics and rescue teams to the site in record time.
Initial enactment of the mishap showed that the speeding taxi driver is to blame for the accident.
"The reckless cabbie failed to observe the lane rule on a two-direction road where he collided with the rear of a long heavy truck while trying to erroneously overtake it."
One of the passengers died on the spot while the other passenger, 33, and the driver, in his thirties, received moderate to serious injuries, and bled excessively, he disclosed.
"The corpse of the deceased was shifted to the morgue of the hospital, while the injured driver and passenger were rushed to the same hospital for treatment and medical care."
The damaged cab was moved off the road, and the accident file was referred to the RAK traffic prosecution for legal procedures as due.
"Speeding, failing to observe lane rules, poor overtaking, and inattentive driving are of some of the main reasons blamed for the grave and deadly accidents in the emirate," Col Al Naqbi warned.
Few days ago, two Asian residents succumbed to fatal injuries they received after the four-wheel-drive car they were travelling in turned over several times.
