After having faced numerous queries from worried citizens about SMSes warning about viruses that may leave their personal bank account information open to hackers, the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) has rubbished the threat as just a means to spread panic.
The TRA said in a statementon Thursday that it hasreceived a number of enquiries regarding SMSesand emails warning people that by replying to a certain number or an email, or by pressing star or hash, etc., your bank accounts become vulnerable to hacking attacks.
Mohammad Al Ghanim, TRA Director General, said, “These messagesclaiming that an extremely dangerous viruswill result from responding to certain such SMSes or emails by pressing a certain digit or by simply replying to an email,are nothing more thana complete hoax.”
