These nationalities cause maximum accidents in Dubai

Dubai - Sudden lane changes without switching on the indicator is a serious violation, especially on the highways.

Emiratis topped the list of drivers who make sudden lane changes on Dubai roads, causing fatal accidents, according to a senior Dubai Police official.
Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Director of the General Department of Traffic at the Dubai Police, said 11 fatal accidents were committed by Emiratis due to sudden deviations without giving indication last year, while Indians caused nine road deaths the similar way, followed by Pakistanis (7) and Egyptians (3).
He said sudden lane changes without switching on the indicator is a serious violation, especially on the highways and main streets. Speed increases the chance of accidents as every motorist would take some seconds to respond to an unexpected situation.
Keeping this in mind, the Dubai Police have launched a campaign to spread awareness about the seriousness of sudden deviation or U-turn. The campaign is aimed at reducing the number of fatalities and traffic accidents due to this type of violation.
"The campaign is one of the major annual campaigns of the Dubai Police. It aims to raise the level of compliance with traffic rules and regulations and to reduce the number of accidents and loss of life and property.
"Sudden lane changes often cause deaths and serious injuries. The General Directorate of Traffic recorded five deaths during the first quarter of the year, in 169 accidents, against five deaths in 137 accidents during the same period last year."
He added that Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Street topped the list of roads that witnessed deaths due to the sudden deviation last year, where eight deaths were recorded, followed by Al Khail Road (4), Emirates Road and Dubai-Al Ain Road (3 each) and Sheikh Zayed Road (2).
He added that last year witnessed recording 43,430 violations against drivers who committed this violation. The fine for making a sudden deviation is Dh200 and four black points, he said, explaining that the Dubai Police rely on various means to monitor this violation. The most important of them is public cooperation through the "We are all police" programme, as well as through traffic patrols and cameras on traffic lights.
Brigadier Al Mazrouei explained that the campaign will include distribution of brochures in shopping malls, visits to sports clubs, technical colleges and universities. The brochures will explain the danger of sudden deviation to the motorists, especially when speeding.
He added that most of the people who commit such violation are drivers of minibuses. "The department will intensify its campaigns on companies that transport a large number of workers, to raise awareness at their workplaces.
