A Mauritanian tourist has been brought before the Court of the First Instance on the charge of possessing fake dollar notes for circulation.
The 33-year-old has been arrested on March 29 at the Arrivals hall, Terminal 1 of the Dubai International Airport.
"I was informed by the staff of an exchange outlet at the Duty Free that the defendant wanted to convert $2,000 into dirhams," a Ugandan security guard said.
The guard went to the shop and checked the bills and verified they were counterfeit.
The Criminal Evidence report showed that the 20 bills (worth each $100) seized from the accused were fake.
He has been placed in provisional detention. The hearing has been adjourned to June 8.
