She'd come to Dubai with her husband Sathyanarayana Reddi, 68, a Rotarian from Madras on Wednesday afternoon to participate in a conference organised by the Rotary Foundation.

Several hundred delegates visited the country as part of a Rotary Institute programme in Grand Hyatt, Dubai. The couple was living in Hyatt Regency Hotel, Deira.

"We came to Dubai for the first time and my wife was quite happy. We were in Dubai Mall visiting various shops and taking pictures. All of a sudden, she felt uneasy and fainted. She wanted to rest as she was experiencing severe pain and we had to call an ambulance. While going to the hospital she died in the ambulance," said the bereaving husband, who is now arranging to repatriate the body of his wife of 39 years to Chennai, their hometown.

The official death certificate says she died of cardiac arrest.

Reddi spoke to Khaleej Times about his deceased wife: "She was happily clicking photographs and wanted me to pose in front of a posh car, because she knew my admiration for good cars. We clicked a photograph together, which is the last memory she left behind," the senior Rotary Club member said, adding that social workers and family friends are helping repatriate the body.

"She was in a holiday mood and was taking pictures of Christmas trees in the mall. My wife used to carry some medicines as she has some minor gastro problems and stomach problems. She was not seriously ill," the mourning husband added.

"We are expecting the body tonight in Chennai," a member of Rotary Club Madras told Khaleej Times. A comment from Rotary Club Dubai is awaited.

"We were married for 39 years and this was our first foreign trip together. She is no more and I am flying back to Chennai with her body."
