A tourist has been sentenced to six months in jail by the Court of First Instance for an alleged attempt to smuggle eight forged passports through the airport.
Prosecution records showed that the 26-year-old man, a Nigerian, was arrested on January 29 at the Dubai International airport.
The defendant, who was also ordered to be deported after completing his jail term, earlier denied having forged the documents.
"We searched his bag and found the passports hidden in books," said a customs inspector.
By checking the passports the officers found they were forged. All the passports were for African nationals of different countries.
The Dubai police Crime Lab report showed that the passports' data was forged. The accused may appeal the verdict within 15 days.
