The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will open on Saturday, a temporary traffic diversion on the Shaikh Rashid Road for the traffic coming from Dubai heading towards Abu Dhabi parallel to Wafi Mall. The diversion will extend for about one kilometre in a sector between Al Garhoud Bridge and Wafi Interchange, and will carry the same number of the existing lanes to avoid any disruption in the traffic flow.
The diversion is required to clear the way for carrying out the remaining construction works of the flyover at the Shaikh Rashid Road, and completing roads and utility works alongside Wafi Centre under the Wafi Interchange Improvement Project scheduled for completion in the first quarter of next year.
Maitha bin Udai, CEO of RTA Traffic & Roads Agency, said: "The RTA has prepared a comprehensive plan for the traffic diversion on the Shaikh Rashid Road to ensure a smooth flow of traffic for the safety of road users. The engineering design of the temporary diversion conforms to the standards of permanent roads specifications in terms of engineering design, leveling, asphalt and sufficient lighting consistent with the designed speed of the road to ensure the safety of road users. The same number of lanes will be maintained in the diversion to avoid any negative impacts on the normal traffic intake."
She confirmed that works on the Wafi Interchange are progressing according to schedule, and called on road users to be attentive, observe directional signs, and stick to the speed limits in keeping with RTA's vision of providing Safe & Smooth Transport for All.
