UAE residents woke up to traffic jams all across the country as schools reopened today.
Several residents who got in touch with Khaleej Times via Facebook reported severe traffic jams across arterial roads, and most of them reported late for work.
"There was no taxi available. I waited for nearly 30 minutes but couldn't find a single taxi. Even the buses were not on time. They were stuck in traffic," said Mohammed Riaz via Facebook.
Furkan Ahmed, a taxi driver, said that he has noticed there was lesser traffic in the city when the schools were closed.
Ahmed said: "Areas like Al Ras road in Deira, Dubai, and Sharjah are traffic prone places but during summer break commuting to these places became much more easier. It took less time to reach there. But, once the schools re-open, traffic will be the same as before. School buses will be all over the roads again.
He added: "However, I think with the new flyover on the Shaikh Zayed road, at least roads will not be packed with vehicles as it used to be."
Mohammad Ibrar, another taxi driver said: "From last week, the roads are crowded again as people are back from vacations and it is going to increase from Aug. 28 onwards."
Meanwhile, some people said traffic jams interrupt their daily schedules badly when the schools reopen.
Gauri Singh, a senior student from Deira International School, said: "My after school activities like driving lessons and dance classes always get delayed because of this. I end up sleeping late. I waste the most precious thing, time, on the roads. Overall, it affects daily academic life".
