Dubai announced a ban on e-scooters inside the Metro and Tram from March 1 to ensure safety of passengers.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on Thursday (February 29) said that commuters are prohibited from carrying their last-mile transport inside the facilities.
In a tweet, the transport authority said: “To ensure your safety and that of others, the use of e-scooters inside Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram will be prohibited, starting Friday, March 1." RTA used the hashtag #YourSafetyOurPriority.
Earlier on Thursday, authorities revealed a robot that would detect violations committed by users of bicycles and electric scooters. The robot — which is tasked with surveillance and spotting violations — will be trialled from March.
Last month, services on Onpassive metro station were delayed for nearly an hour after smoke was detected from an electric scooter.
