Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority has closed Mega Restaurant in Musaffah Industrial Area 34 and Dream Star Restaurant on Hamadan Street for various violations including cleanliness and handling food items in an unprofessional way.
Both restaurants failed to comply with the food standards set by the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority.
Musaffah's Mega Restaurant faced action for violations such as presence of insects, poor cleanliness, non-provision of suitable containers for food items, and poor ventilation in the storage area.
The restaurant was keeping the cooked food in room temperature conditions in addition to storing it on the floor directly.
The reasons that led to the closure of Dream Stars Restaurant included lack of attention given to the cleanliness and drainage of sewage, wrong practices adopted to defrost meat and poultry, presence of cracks on the floor in addition to keeping cooked and raw food on the floor carelessly.
The crackdown comes after the owners of the two eateries fail to improve the situation despite warning. The restaurants will remain closed until the owners take action to clear the violations.
Once they fix the short-comings identified, they would be allowed to run the businesses, the food authority said. The action is part of a stringent food safety system which doesn't compromise with the health and safety of consumers, the authority added.
