The Ras Al Khaimah Police have upgraded its machinery with two new advanced armoured vehicles.
Major-General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the RAK Police, said the new vehicles are locally made as part of strategic partnership with specialised companies and factories.
"The new vehicles, worth over Dh3 million, are the second and third this year so far, and these have been dedicated to the Special Tasks Section of the Ras Al Khaimah Police," he said.
"We are all set to meet customers' expectations with top quality services, and to promote and boost safety and security across the emirate," he said, noting that all the RAK police stations, ambulances and rescue teams can efficiently handle any emergency situation.
Lt-Col Yousef Salem bin Yaqoob, Head of the Special Tasks Section with the RAK Police, told Khaleej Times that the RAK Police now have a fleet of six armoured vehicles, of which three were acquired in 2015 and three in 2016. "Most of these stand at Dh1.2-Dh 1.3 million."
The ballistic-protected vehicles of level-7 could be used in fighting terrorism, armed violence, riot acts and in boosting internal security.
The high capacity vehicles can carry more staffers, Lt-Col bin Yaqoob stated, adding that they are equipped with advanced devices so that each of these could be a portable operation room."
Elaborating, he said the STREIT Armoured Vehicles factory has already delivered a number of modern vehicles to the RAK police based on an exceptional long-term partnership.
"The 'Mercedes' armoured vehicle, valued at about Dh2 million, is equipped with water pumps and modern technologies, and is used in riot-control and maintaining security."
The other 'Spartan' vehicle is an armoured personnel carrier that is used to maintain internal-security and features many modern technical specifications, he added. "The worth Dh1.2-Dh1.3m vehicle, equipped with internal and external surveillance cameras, can easily run on rugged roads."
