All paid parking zones in Abu Dhabi and Dubai will be free to use on Thursday - the official holiday marking the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him). This, clubbed with the usual free parking on Friday, makes it two days of free parking in the two emirates.
In Dubai, however, the Fish Market parking lot and the multi-level parking terminals, which apply a 24-hour daily tariff, will not be free to use.
In Abu Dhabi, the Department of Transport (DOT) announced that surface parking bays will be free as of midnight on Thursday until 8am on Saturday. Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will reactivate the paid zones on Saturday.
On Thursday, the Red and Green Lines of the Dubai Metro will start at 5.30am and continue up to 1am, while the tram will be operational from 6.30am to 1am. Public buses and main bus stations will be operational from 4.25am till 1am.
All vehicles testing and registration centres will be closed on December 24 and will resume operations on December 26, except the Tasjeel Al Qusais, Tasjeel Al Barsha, Quick Vehicle Testing and Registration Centre at Al Qusais and Platinum Vehicle Testing Centre at The Dubai Mall - all of which will be operational during the holiday.
The DoT said its customer care centres in Elektra Street, Al Muroor Street, Al Falah, Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Abu Dhabi Commercial Properties and Etisalat will be closed on Thursday and resume duty on Saturday.
The customer care centre in Central Market will also be closed on Thursday, but will remain open on Friday.
