Two pairs of twins were among the bundles of joy that were born in the UAE in the first few minutes of 2018. At Thumbay Hospital Ajman, 28-year-old Iraqi, Noor, delivered two healthy baby boys 23 and 56 seconds into the new year.
At the same hospital, at 12.01am and 12.02am, 28-year-old Palestinian, Sumaiyya, delivered two baby girls. Two other babies were born at the hospital at 12.30am and 1.52 am.
At Thumbay Hospital Fujairah, the first baby was delivered at 12.07am. Sultan Mousa Hadi Amanou, male, born to Ethiopian parents, weighed 3.24kg. The parents "never expected" that their baby would come in the early moments of the new year. Calling it a "special moment", the father said he would be inviting his friends to celebrate.
At Thumbay Hospital Dubai, Indian baby, Zuhra Farzeen, was born at 12.38am. Her father, Farook Sheriffdeen Thaha, said: "We didn't expect delivery on January 1 as the due date was January 7."
Elsewhere, at the RAK Hospital, an Indian couple, Qudsiya Begum and Sameer Khan, rejoiced in the birth of their baby boy. The year began on the happiest possible note for the Indian couple. Ahyaan was born at 5.45am. One other baby was born at the hospital in the first few hours after the clock struck 12.
Dr Raza Siddqui, CEO, Arabian Healthcare Group, and executive director, RAK Hospital, said: "As a new year gift to the babies born at RAK Hospital on January 1, we will provide free OPD consultation, including vaccination for one year. Being parents to newborns can be overwhelming, especially to first-time parents, and we hope that this little gift from us will help ease their concerns to an extent.
"We would also like to offer our heartiest congratulations to all the happy parents, not just at RAK Hospital, but across the UAE who saw their precious bundles of joy arrive on the first day of 2018," Siddiqui added.
Zulekha Hospital Dubai welcomed two babies and its branch in Sharjah welcomed one other in the first few hours of the new year.
