UAE singer and UN Goodwill Ambassador Hussain Al Jassmi expressed his pride at being Emirati, and thanked the UAE leadership for the support they provide to innovators and intellectuals of the country, which helps advance the UAE's culture and media, and achieve new horizons of development and creativity.
The artist made these remarks at the second session of the second edition of the Arab Social Media Influencers Summit (ASMIS). The session, held under the theme 'Art and Social Media' was moderated by Nada Shibani.
Al Jassmi, who has 6.7 million followers on Facebook, 4.8 million on Twitter, 1.4 million on Instagram and 1.2 million on YouTube, said that he is happy to take part in the Summit. He also said that "charisma comes not from the tongue, but from actions and ethical behaviour. Either you learn or you burn, and I have decided to learn."
Al Jassmi said that comments on social media make him laugh, adding that those who comment are part of us. He said he accepts comments with an "open heart."
Al Jassmi also said that he is happy to see a rise in the number of his followers, as this provides him with confidence. Content is what attracts more followers, he said. Al Jassmi also said that he is more interested in the quality of his followers rather than quantity.
Al Jassmi also said that artists should be smart in the way they deal with people. He emphasised on the need for artists to be real. "It's important to be real and to project your real image as you represent yourself as well as your society and country. One should be committed to one's principles," he said adding, "I prefer to keep my personal likes for myself, I prefer privacy."
