Dr Anwar Mohammed Gargash, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, on Thursday met Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen, at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry.
The UN official briefed Dr Gargash on the latest developments on the Yemeni negotiations and details of the next round, which is scheduled to be held during January. Ahmed hailed the UAE's support for peaceful efforts by the United Nations in Yemen.
Dr Anwar Gargash stressed that the UAE is strongly supporting the political solution based on international and regional references on the Yemeni crisis. He pointed out that a fair political solution is the option that unifies the Yemeni people and ensures the long-term security, stability and prosperity in Yemen.
He noted the need to activate and expand the scope of relief support to include all governorates of Yemen, stressing the seriousness of possible exploitation of this for short-term political objectives.

He commended the performance of the Yemeni government delegation in the previous round of negotiations, expressing his confidence in the continuation of this rational performance that puts the interests of Yemen above any other consideration in the next rounds of talks and to support a political solution based on UN Security Council Resolution No. 2216, the GCC initiative and the outputs of the Yemeni national dialogue.
Dr Gargash stressed that the UAE, through its active role in the Saudi-led Arab Coalition, seeks to find a sustainable political solution to ensure the historical relationship between Yemen and the Arab world.
He pointed out that the UAE is aware of the difficulty of the political track, but at the same time is convinced that it is the only option which guarantees the stability of Yemen and the Yemeni state and society.
