The UAE has relaxed its foreign travel guidelines, allowing citizens and residents to travel to all accessible destinations for 'general' reasons provided they adhere to all mandatory precautions and safety measures imposed to counter the spread of Covid-19.
Those within the country can now travel without applying for a permit from the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) even as those in the vulnerable category, including seniors, are advised against travelling.
UAE carriers Emirates and Etihad have restarted operations to more than 50 destinations and the further easing of restrictions will help expats return to their home countries while enabling both citizens and expats to plan overseas trips during the summer vacations.
The health protocols will include quarantine measures at destinations, pre- and post-travel Covid-19 tests, as well as quarantine on their return to the UAE, if required.
The results of the test should be presented either on the Al Hosn application or by showing a medical certificate - as proof of the negative result - to authorities at the destination of arrival.
Travel will only be permitted if the individual receives a negative result and they must obtain international health insurance, which is valid throughout the period of travel, and covers the desired destination.
Returning UAE residents must also adhere to listed regulations and procedures - including undergoing a Covid test in countries where laboratories are available, before flying back to UAE.
The United Kingdom, meanwhile, is set to reopen to tourists from 50 countries, but Gulf countries and the United States were left out of the list announced on Friday.
Four simple steps to travel abroad
- Register with Twajudi service (for Emiratis only)
- Covid-19 testing before travel (48 hours validity)
- Show result on Al Hosn app at immigration
- Tests in designated labs prior to return to the UAE
