Lt. Col Yahya Al Matroushi, director of Al Humaidiya police station, said that General Shaikh Sultan Bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, commander-in-chief of Ajman Police, on Tuesday ordered to resolve the case of a Pakistani girl who had been gripped by police fear since she was a child.
Lt. Col. Al Matroushi said that the police chief heard the girl's father voicing his grouse on radio, who lamented that his daughter suffers from a psychological problem caused by her fear of the police. Lt. Col. Al Matroushi added that the man said her daughter had been suffering since she was four years old, which forced her to leave her university in her home country and come to the UAE.
The psychiatrist treating his daughter had advised the man to appeal to police authorities to intervene in the matter, as her treatment could be possible if she visits a police station and gets close to the police staff to know them better and break the barrier. This could change the wrong image of the police that she has made up in her mind, the psychiatrist had told the father. The man shared this during the radio programme.
The police chief immediately decided to end the girl's police scare. The cops got in touch with the girl and her parents. They were asked to drop in at Al Humaidiya police station. When they visited it, Lt. Col Al Matroushi and Captain Ahmed Al Shamsi, head of CID at the police station, took the girl on a round of the police station and introduced her to different mechanisms that the cops follow. She was also offered gifts by all the officers.
After the visit, the girl expressed deep happiness over having seen and known the police from close quarters. She thanked the Ajman Police General Commander and the staff of Al Humaidiya police station for their cooperation and wished them success in performing their duties.
Lt. Col. Yahya Matroushi called on the public not to ingrain police scare in their children because it can go long way in building a wrong image of police among them. They should be sensitized about the role police play in providing security and safety to the people, he pointed out.
