The Sharjah Criminal Court heard the case of a government worker at the Procurement Division department who is accused of taking a Dh200,000 bribe for leaking tender information.
A policeman, who was part of the control team, testified that he had caught the defendant red-handed in a parking lot at 6pm on Wednesday, Emarat Al Youm reported.
The accused, a Gulf national, was arrested with the money in his car. The money was detected by the criminal forensic lab before it was caught with the suspect, police said.
A second police witness said that the accused had part of the money in his hand when they confiscated it.
The defendant denied the charges against him when he was confronted by the court. He said that he had signed three contracts that day and the person he signed the contracts with threw the money at his desk.
He also said that he confessed to the prosecution because the investigator hinted at him that a confession will solve the matter and he will be able to go home.
The court postponed the case till April 23 to hear other witnesses and the Director of the Finance Department testimonies.
