UAE, India experts team up for newborn care

Abu Dhabi - The National Neonatology Forum (NNF) India, established in 1980 by paediatricians working in neonatology.

Neonatologists from the UAE and India will collaborate to share medical expertise and deliver the best medical care to newborns, experts said after the launch of a new platform in Abu Dhabi.
The National Neonatology Forum (NNF) India, established in 1980 by paediatricians working in neonatology, opened its first overseas branch in Abu Dhabi. Indian Ambassador to UAE Navdeep Singh Suri, NNF office-bearers of Indian and UAE chapters, and more than 175 neonatologists and paediatricians took part in the inauguration.
A memorandum of understanding was inked between the NNF India president, Dr VP Goswami; secretary Dr Lalan K Bharti; and the NNF UAE chapter represented by Dr Monica Kaushal, Dr Rajesh Sharma and Dr Sridhar Kalyansundaram.
Dr Rajesh Sharma, consultant neonatologist at the Corniche Hospital Abu Dhabi, said the branch would help doctors engage and learn from each other in aspects like clinical advice, decision-making and handling of complex cases.
"The main role of this forum will be to facilitate the exchange of expertise between India and the UAE and other GCC members. We will conduct at least two conferences here and in India. We can learn a lot of things from them and they can know about technological advancements here. 
"Indian doctors handle large volumes of cases. There are many medical conditions and cases which are not seen here. So there's lot to learn."
Sharma said the success of the collaboration can also boost medical tourism. "If we are able to showcase the facilities available in the UAE, this can boost medical tourism. The new branch can be a platform to share the best of both the countries. Also, in the future, we aim to get NNF India fellowships recognised here in the UAE, which will help Indian doctors progress in their career," Sharma said.
Dr Monika Kaushal, consultant neonatologist at the Emirates Hospital Dubai, said the establishment of the UAE branch was a 'dream come true'.
Dr Sridhar Kalyanasundaram, consultant neonatology and paediatrics specialist at the Zulekha Hospital Dubai, said the new branch would be mutually beneficial for doctors to provide the best care to newborns.
