It's just by luck that a Dubai-based Emirati woman got to choose December 2 for the birth of her baby.
Alia Al Ali, a mother of two, is expecting her third child. "My two earlier children, a boy and girl, were born through Caesarian, so this baby will also be brought into the world by C-section," she told Khaleej Times.
"The doctor asked me if I wanted to have the baby on December 1 or 2. I chose December 2 since it is my country's National Day," she said.
A prior scan has shown that Alia's baby will be a girl. "I have already chosen her name - Amira," she added.
Alia's original due date was end of December. Dr Rabab Mehdi Helmi, consultant obstetrics and gynaecologist at Al Zahra Hospital in Sharjah who is Alia's doctor, said that it was okay for the patient to choose a date. "Since she is already 38 weeks plus, she can deliver any day," said the doctor.
"The surgery is being done since Alia's both earlier pregnancies resulted in c-sections. This makes it more likely for the preceding births to be c-sections too," she said.
"We should have already done the surgery but since we could adjust the day, Alia chose December 2 for the delivery," added the doctor.
