In an Eid tragedy, a nurse died in a road accident while on a drive with her family to the Jebel Jais mountains in Ras Al Khaimah (RAK).

Tintu Paul, 36, who worked at a dental clinic in RAK, was with her husband Kripa Shankar and children Kritin, 10, and one and half-year-old Aadin Shankar, along with other family members on May 3, when their vehicle lost control and crashed leaving them seriously injured.

Paul, her husband, children, and other family members were rushed to a hospital in RAK by the police. However, despite all efforts, the nurse succumbed to her injuries the next day (May 4), while her husband and son remain in the ICU.

Hailing from Kochi, in the Indian state of Kerala, Paul had been working with RAK Al Hamra Clinic for the last one and half years.

Basil, Paul’s maternal cousin, said that the husband and son are battling for their lives. “Her husband was severely injured in the accident and is under treatment in ICU and the elder son is also receiving treatment at a hospital in RAK,” he confirmed.

Basil said this is the first time they have had an accident in their family and they are simply devastated by this news. “Her (Paul’s) mother is unable to accept the loss and keeps saying that her daughter will return soon,” he said.

Orthodontist Dr Sudeep Thomas with whom Paul worked was in shock. “It is heart-breaking to hear the news. Paul was a great human being. She loved her work and was very good at it,” he said. He said she had a generous nature, adding that she always shared her food with her colleagues, and was always concerned about the people around her. “Whenever she got some free time, she was on call with her children and mother.

“She was also a great mother,” said Dr Thomas.

Paul’s brother who is in the UK flew into the UAE to help conduct the last rites, which will be held here.
