The police have stressed that weapons are being used by individuals despite awareness campaigns against their use, be they cold weapons like swords, axes, knives and bows, and arms, licensed or not.
This came after an Emirati woman was shot several times by her husband in their house in Ras Al Khaimah late on Saturday. The woman in her forties, however escaped death, and her condition remains stable.
Major-General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the RAK Police, said the Central Operations Room, alerted of the incident late on Saturday, dispatched an ambulance and paramedics to the house. "Initial investigations show that the suspect shot his wife several times apparently following a heated argument."
People-speak Ahmed Al Ammash, former FNC member, said random use of weapons can destabilise the security of the community and spread hatred among tribes and families. "There should be more stringent laws to prevent any unlicensed use of white weapons or arms." Ali Rashid, an Emirati, said keeping or using unlicensed arms, particularly by young people, is strictly prohibited. "Any such tradition is dangerous." Mohammed Salem, another Emirati said all the bodies concerned, along with tribes and families have to develop awareness about the risks of such weapons and arms. "The origin of some of these weapons is unknown." |
