UAE President Sheikh Mohamed ordered the release of 2,269 prisoners on Wednesday.
The release of these inmates from penal and correctional institutions comes on the occasion of the 53rd UAE National Day.
The Ruler also pledged to cover all fines and penalties imposed on the inmates, who had been sentenced for a variety of offences.

Dubai's Ruler also ordered the release of 1,169 convicts of various nationalities from the emirate's correctional and penal institutions.
Authorities will begin implementing the order as soon as possible, in a way that ensures happiness and joy to the families and relatives of the selected prisoners.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai's order comes in line with the spirit of the Union and its associated meanings of tolerance and giving. The decision aims to grant inmates a new opportunity to "return to the right path and resume their lives as good and useful people for themselves and their society."
Ras Al Khaimah Ruler has also ordered the release of 1,053 inmates of the correctional and punitive Institutions in Ras Al Khaimah, who are serving varying sentences and have been convicted in various cases, on the occasion of the 53rd Union Day.
Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, ruled this to give the inmates another chance to start a new life and alleviate the suffering of their families.
Earlier in the day, Sharjah's Ruler also ordered the release of 683 prisoners on the occasion of the UAE's 53rd National Day.
Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al-Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Governor of Sharjah, leader pardoned them on the condition of their good record and conduct.
Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, also ordered the release of 304 inmates from correctional and penal facilities in the emirate. The pardon will be done after they met the required conditions and were proven eligible for it.
Fujairah's Ruler also ordered the release of 118 prisoners from the Penal and Reformative Institution in the emirate. The decision was based on the inmates' eligibility, good background and behaviour, ahead of 53rd National Day.

Yesterday, the UAE issued a new Federal Decree-Law regarding the regulation of penal and corrective institutions in the country. The decree aims at reinforcing the institutions' role in empowering prisoners to integrate into society while ensuring their rights.
