A Gulf national has been accused by the Sharjah Criminal Court of kidnapping a compatriot and threatening to cut off his ear.
The complainant claimed the man abducted him, threatened to cut his ear off and leave him in the desert. The accused denied the allegations and said the complainant was in trying to get touch with his wife and they had met to talk about it amicably.
"The story of kidnapping, threatening to cut the ear and leave him in the desert, is untrue. Also, the statements of the complainant are conflicting. He said he was taken out of the car and beaten, but also that he was strangled in the back of the car," said Mohamed Al Awami Al Mansoori, the lawyer of the defendant.
He told the court that the defendant had filed a case at the Abu Dhabi Misdemeanours Court in Baniyas about an unknown number trying to contact his wife through WhatsApp and Snapchat, which appeared to be that of the complainant.
The defendant, an Abu Dhabi government employee, got in touch the man who agreed to meet and got into the car voluntarily. He told he got the photos and contact details of the accused's wife from another woman at their wedding.
The accused wanted to check the phone thoroughly for any further photos of his wife and promised to return it later. But soon, he received a call from the police summoning him to investigate the case of kidnapping and assault.
The lawyer also requested the court to transfer the complainant's phones to the forensic laboratory to prove they contain the video clips of the defendant's marriage ceremony and chats with his wife on February 2. He said the complainant had infringed on the privacy and caused inconvenience to the defendant's wife.
